Venture Capitalist

The phrase Venture Capitalist refers to individuals or organisations which invest equity risk monies in businesses. Private equity is a phrase used to distinguish Venture Capitalist's investing activity from the public capital markets. It is ironic that UK Venture Capitalists rarely invest in "risky" propositions. They primarily invest in large, well managed, profitable businesses, using debt leverage to boost their returns on monies invested. The ethos is often, to generate cash to repay the acquisition debt with insufficient focus on fundamentals of the businesses.
